How much are the permits? (Both Guest and Resident)

Resident Permits cost $5 per season.

Depending on the year, two year permits will be available for $10. 

Guest Permits cost $25 per day

What do I need to get a Resident Permit?

In order to purchase a Resident Permit, one must have Proof of Residency in either Mattituck or Laurel, New York present when purchasing permit.

Where can I get a Permit? 

Permits can be purchased directly from the Beach Attendant at Breakwater Beach, Veteran’s Beach, or on the weekends at Peconic Beach.

What qualifies as Proof of Residency?

Any document with the permittee’s name and Mattituck/Laurel address. Common examples include Driver’s License, Tax Bills, Rental Agreements, Mail, Car Registration, etc…

What beaches does my permit allow me to park at?

The Resident or Guest Permit allows you to park at Veteran’s Beach and Peconic Beach on the Peconic Bay and Breakwater Beach on the Long Island Sound.

I'm renting a house for the summer. Can I get a Resident Permit?

With proof of the agreement as long as you are renting for 2 or more weeks you are able to purchase a resident permit.

I'm renting a house for a weekend. Can I get a Resident Permit? Or a permit for the weekend?

No, we do not offer Resident Permits to those renting a house for less than FILL IN CUTOFF, nor do we offer any weekend permits. You will have to get a Guest Permit each day you plan on parking at one of the Mattituck Park District Beaches.

My parents live here, but I don't. Can I get a Resident Permit?

No, we do not offer Resident Permits to non-residents.

My friend is staying with us for a few days, can they get a permit?

No, we do not offer Resident Permits to non-residents.

I have multiple cars. Do I need multiple permits?

Yes, each permit is issued per vehicle.

I have a Southold Beach Permit. Is that good for here?

No, these are Mattituck Park District Beaches, which require a Mattituck Park District issued Permit to park at. These permits can be purchased from the Beach Attendants at our beaches. 

When does the beach open/close? 

The gates open around 7/7:30 am and closes at 9 pm.

Is there a lifeguard on duty?

There are lifeguards on duty at Veteran’s Beach on the Peconic Bay and Breakwater Beach on the Long Island Sound.
There are no lifeguards on duty at Peconic Beach on the Peconic Bay.

When do the lifeguards start/leave?

The lifeguards are on duty from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

When do the beach attendants start/leave?

The Beach Attendants are on duty from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekends.

Can I sail/Kayak/canoe/bring my boat? (Especially at Vets)

Any non-motorized boats are allowed to be used at the beach.

Can I grill? (Especially at Breakwater)

There are no grills placed at breakwater to grill and we request that no  grills are brought onto the beach unless told otherwise by a commissioner or office clerk.

Are pets allowed?

Pets are not allowed at veterans and the yacht club, but are allowed at breakwater beach.

Is there Wi-Fi?

If you are an optimum customer you are able to access an optimum hotspot. Otherwise, wifi is not available to the public.

Can I just use the playground?

Yes, anyone living in southold town is able to use the playground without purchasing a pass. Just inform the beach attendant on duty that you are just using the playground.

Can I use the grills in the picnic area at Vets?

As long as there are no events going on in the picnic area, grills can be used.

Is there a bathroom?

There are porta potties at all beaches for use at any time and bathrooms at breakwater and veterans between 10 am and 5 pm.

What time do the bathrooms open/close?

Bathrooms open at 10 am and are closed by 5 pm.

Is there food? (like a snack bar or something)

Most people drive to the mattituck shopping center where there are several food options to choose from. There is no snack bar at the beaches themselves.

Do food trucks come through here? 

An ice cream truck occasionally goes to Veterans and the yacht club.

Can I drink on the beach?

As long as the person that would like to drink is 21 or over, they are able to drink on the beach.

Is there a discount for senior citizens/Veterans/Active Duty/Police/Firemen?

With proof of military identification, active duty/veterans are now able to receive a free beach sticker.

Is there a lost and found?

Although there is no official lost and found, a person can bring items into the office or let an employee in the office know that an item is missing and what to do if it is found.

Is there a first aid kit?

Life guards have access to first aid kits, they are on duty from 11 am to 5 pm.

Do you do swimming/sailing lessons?

There are swimming lessons held for two weeks during the month of July, they are booked through Southold town. Sailing lessons are at the Yacht Club and are booked through them.
